Women's Basketball Hosts Local Rival Loyola Friday Night

The UMBC women's basketball team (0-2) will look for its first win of the season Friday night, as the Retrievers take on Baltimore rival Loyola at 7 p.m. at the RAC Arena.
The Retrievers are coming off a 59-48 loss to Coppin State on Nov. 14 in the home opener. Freshman guard Carlee Cassidy scored 17 points off the bench, including 10 in the first half, en route to being named UMBC's first Marlowe Sports America East Player of the Game this season. Senior point guard Brittnie Hughes added 10 points, while senior forward Sharri Rohde posted nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Greyhounds were selected to finish seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason poll after placing third last season with a 20-10 overall record and a 13-5 league mark. Loyola lost to Marist in the finals of the MAAC Tournament. Senior Brittany Dunn was named to the preseason All-MAAC second team. The Greyhounds are 1-1 on the season and coming off a 66-57 win over Drexel on Nov. 12. Four players scored in double figures, led by Dunn and Jill Glessner with 17 points each. Tynisha Davis added 15 points, and Meghan wood scored 10. The quartet has accounted for 85 percent of the team's total scoring.
The Retrievers are 11-18 all-time against the Greyounds, and Loyola has won the last eight meetings.
