The UMBC women's basketball team (0-1) opens its home schedule against Coppin State (0-1) Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the RAC Arena. The game will be regionally televised on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
The Retrievers are coming off a 72-58 season-opening loss at George Washington on Nov. 10. Brittnie Hughes led UMBC with 13 points, while Sharri Rohde and Kristin Drabyn posted 12 points each.
The Eagles were tabbed the preseason favorite to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The two-time defending MEAC champions finished 22-9 last season, including 18-0 in league play, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles lost their season opener to George Washington, 63-53, on Nov. 12. Rashida Suber, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, led the team with 16 points.
The Retrievers are 9-6 all-time against the Eagles, but Coppin State has won the last four meetings.
