ROHDE NAMED TO AMERICA EAST ALL-CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM

    Sharri Rohde was tabbed second team all-conference by the America East.

    Springfield, Mass.-UMBC junior forward Sharri Rohde was named to the 2006 America East all-conference second team, the league announced Thursday. Rohde is averaging 12.4 points per game this season and has the fourth-best shooting percentage in the conference at 54.3 percent.

     

    Rohde ranks 11th in the America East in scoring, eighth with 3.0 assists per game and 14th with 5.9 rebounds per contest. She is even better in league games this season, as she averages 14.8 points (fifth) and 6.4 rebounds (11th) and shoots at a 57.1 percent clip (third) against America East opponents. She also ranks eighth in the conference with 2.94 assists per game against league foes.

     

    The junior from Indianapolis has tallied 20-plus points four times this season, including a career-high 23 against Boston University on Feb. 29, and she has grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds twice this year. She averaged 17.7 points and 8.8 rebounds to lead the Retrievers during their six-game winning streak earlier this season.

     

    Rohde was tabbed America East Player of the Week twice in 2006. She averaged a double-double with 20.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg in two UMBC wins against Stony Brook and Albany at the end of January for her first honor, then averaged 19.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 5.5 apg against Boston U. and Vermont two weeks later.

     

    Rohde is currently 20th all-time at UMBC with 769 career points. She also ranks ninth in Retriever history with 238 career assists and 63 career blocks.

     

    Hartford’s Erika Messam was named Player of the Year, while Stony Brook’s Dana Ferraro was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Hartford’s Erika Beverly earned Rookie of the Year honors, while Hartford mentor Jennifer Rizzotti was tabbed Coach of the Year.

     

    The Retrievers, the No. 5 seed in the America East Tournament, are in action Friday, March 10, as they take on fourth-seeded Binghamton at 8:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of Hartford.
