WOMEN'S HOOPS GUARD JESSIE BROWN NAMED NEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

UMBC junior point guard Jessie Brown was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week after enjoying back-to-backspectacular performances in UMBC's victories overRobert Morris and St. Francis (PA). Brown averaged 22points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 3.0 stealsduring the week. She shot 69 percent (14-for-23) fromthe floor and 92 percent (12-for-13) from the foulline. Brown came within 3 rebounds of recording thefirst triple-double in the school's history when shescored 20 points and added 11 assists and 7 reboundsin UMBC's, 68-49 victory over Robert Morris. Shefollowed that performance with a career-high 24 pointsin UMBC's upset victory against St. Francis (PA). Brown scored 16 points in the second half and 7 pointsover the final 1:40 of the contest. UMBC trailed61-52 with just 4:48 remaining but outscored the RedFlash 19-4 the rest of the way. Brown scored 11 ofpoints during the run. She scored the go-ahead basket,a three-point play, which gave the Retrievers a 64-63lead, and then hit all four of her free-throw attemptsto ice the game down the stretch. Brown is averaging12.4 ppg. and 4.5 apg. on the season. Sheis now 25-26(96 percent )from the foul line in NEC competition.
