Freshman Amanda Robinson earned her first conference accolades after averaging 19.5 ppg last week.
Boston, Mass. – The America East Conference on Monday announced freshman Amanda Robinson (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) was named Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 6, 2005. Robinson averaged 19.5 ppg in two outings last week en route to garnering her first ever conference accolade. Robinson shares the weekly honors with Vermont’s Alexis Castro.
Robinson started the week at New Hampshire, tallying a career-high 20 points as she came off the bench to play 26 minutes in the contest. Robinson added five rebounds, a block and steal in her 9-of-15 performance from the field.
Against top seeded Maine two nights later, Robinson shot 9-of-17 for 19 points in an encore performance. She tallied eight rebounds to tie another career high and added four assists, two blocks and three steals.
Robinson shot an impressive 56.3 percent from the field, making 18-of-32 shots and went 3-of-4 at the charity stripe. For the week Robinson finished with four steals, three blocks and four assists to go with 13 rebounds. Over the last five games Robinson has three double-digit performances and averaging 11.8 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
Robinson and the rest of the UMBC Women’s Basketball team travels to Hartford, Conn., for the opening round of the America East Tournament on Wednesday, March 9. The Retrievers will take on Northeastern at 8:30 p.m. in the University of Hartford’s Chase Family Arena.
