Bio

	Kelley Gibson
	Position: Assistant Coach, First Season Alma Mater: Maryland, '99

Kelley Gibson was hired during the summer of 2006 as the third assistant coach on the UMBC women’s basketball coaching staff.  Gibson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Retriever program, having played at the highest levels of women’s basketball throughout the world.    

Gibson is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where she spent four years playing for the Terrapins.  Following her graduation in 1999, Gibson went on to play for the Houston Comets for four years, winning a WNBA Championship her rookie year as she came off the bench in 17 games.  Over her four-year tenure with Houston, she played in over 100 games, ranking her among the Comet’s top-10 for career games played.   

Following her career at Houston, Gibson has played professionally for the Club Maccabi Ashodd in Israel, the Chicago Blaze of the NWBL and a short stint back in the WNBA with the New York Liberty. 

Gibson spent last year as a graduate assistant coach at American University, assisting in administrative duties and recruiting, coordinating team travel arrangements, assisting in practice and game day coaching strategies and handling the day-to-day operations of the women’s basketball program. 

Gibson holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland.  As a player, she earned All-ACC honorable mention honors her senior year and ACC all-rookie team accolades in 1996.  Gibson as a junior led the team with 119 assists and her 311 career helpers ranked her 14^th all-time in Maryland history upon her graduation.   

Gibson is a native of Maryland and has her high school jersey retired at Easton High School, where she won two state titles, set a school record with 2,220 career points and corralled 1,008 career rebounds.   Along with her jersey having been retried, she has a street named after her in Easton, Md.
