Gilreath Wins High Jump on First Day of America East Championships

    Victor Gilreath won the high jump Saturday.

    VESTAL, N.Y.—Sophomore Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) won the high jump, junior Adrian Arthur (Bowie, Md./Bowie) is seeded first in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and senior Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) is first in the decathlon for the UMBC track and field teams after the first day of competition in the America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

     

    Gilreath hit a mark of 1.98m (6’6”) to win the gold in the high jump. Arthur finished the 100-meter dash in 10.71 and the 200-meter dash in 21.41, while Devaud has 3,411 points after winning the 100-meter and 400-meter dash portions of the decathlon. Devaud also placed sixth in the men’s pole vault.

     

    Devaud, senior Keith Brown (Columbia, Md./McDonough), junior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) all qualified for the 110-meter hurdle finals Sunday. Brown also qualified for the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 54.82.

     

    On the women’s side, junior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and sophomore Waquesha Canty (Landover, Md./C.H. Flowers) qualified for tomorrow’s 100-meter dash final, while senior Kierra Gregory (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) qualified in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.92.

     

    Senior Toni Boyd (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 34.24m (112’04”), while freshman Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) finished eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:36.60.

     

    The championships conclude tomorrow at Binghamton University.
