UMBC Track and Field Earns Second Straight Performer of the Week as Fauntleroy Earns Women's Field Award

4/15/2008

Senior Ashley Fauntleroy was named the Women's Field Performer of the Week.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC track and field senior Ashley Fauntleroy (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) was named the America East Women’s Field Performer of the Week for the week ending April 14, the conference announced Tuesday.

Fauntleroy, a six-time America East champion and two-time Outstanding Field Performer award-winner, recorded three top-three finishes with three career-best marks at last weekend’s University of Virginia Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational.  Not only did Fauntleroy achieve two second-place finishes and one third-place finish, but she also broke her own school record in the discus throw, qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the shot put and qualified for the ECAC Championships in both the discus and hammer throws.

Fauntleroy turned in second-place finishes in the shot put with an NCAA Regional-qualifying mark of 14.68m (48’2”), and in the hammer throw, with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 49.15m (161’3”).  The senior also broke her own school record of 44.50m (146’0”) in the discus throw with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 44.70m (146’8”) to finish third overall.

Fauntleroy is the second straight Retriever to be named a conference performer of the week for the outdoor track and field season after sophomore Chris Hart (Lancashire, England/St. Mary’s University) picked up the honor for the week ending April 7.
