LIM WINS B FLIGHT SINGLES OF DC METRO TOURNAMENT

Freshman Aimee Lim won the B Flight of the 26th Annual DC Metropolitan Intercollegiate Tennis Championships, played at Georgetown and American this weekend.Lim, unseeded, defeated #5 seed Stephanie Sutton of Georgetown, 6-1, 6-3 to take the title.Previously, she won her semi-final match, a tough three-set victory (5-7, 6-4, 6-2) over Chelsea Kammerer of Georgetown.In the men's A Flight, Josef Novotny, seeded #3, (32 entries) opened with a tough three-set winOver American's Juan Jaysingh (6-4, 6-7, 6-2), and then defeated Georgetown's Andre Benjamin(6-1, 6-1) in the second round. On Sunday, the Retriever newcomer defeated Georgegtown'sDennis Cravedi, 6-2, 2-0, retired, and advanced to the finals with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over #1seed, Bence Hamori of American. Novotny and AU's unseeded Tushar Garg have not beenable to complete their match for the title. Back on the women's side, Jana Karaskova, unseeded, advanced to the finals, before falling toLiora Gelblum of Georgetown, 6-3, 6-3. She had received a first-round bye, then ripped off threeconsecutive straight set wins over Margot Wallace of Loyola (6-1, 6-1), Jordan Botjer ofGeorgetown (6-1, 6-0), and top-seeded Tatiana Okpala of Howard (6-3, 6-1). It will be an all-UMBC doubles final at #1 doubles with the #1 team of AnitaPushpanathan-Jana Karaskova taking on the #2 squad of Lana Khvalina-Tia Kaasalainen. Bothteams won three matches to make it to the finals, and a champion will be determined atUMBC on Wednesday.
