NEC TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCHES WASHED OUT

4/26/2003

West Windsor, NJ -- The men’s and women’s title matches at the 2003 Northeast Conference Tennis Championships were washed out due to rain and inclement weather in the local area. The tournament has been postponed until tomorrow, with play scheduled to resume at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.

The men’s championship will begin at 10:00 am, with three-time defending champion and top-seed UMBC taking on #2 seed Fairleigh Dickinson. FDU will look to avenge a 4-0 setback to the Retrievers in the 2002 men’s title match.

The women’s championship is slated for 12:00 pm as #1 seed UMBC will shoot for its fifth straight NEC crown when it meets archrival and #2 seed Quinnipiac. UMBC and Quinnipiac will face each other in the women’s title match for the fourth straight year. The Retrievers have won the three previous meetings, all by 4-0 scores.

The winner of both the men’s and women’s NEC Championship will represent the conference in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
