KAASALAINEN EARNS NEC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

UMBC junior Tia Kaasalainen earned NEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors for her play this past week. Tia dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over UNC-Wilmington’s Kristin Mears at #3 singles, helpingthe Retrievers to their ninth straight win on Saturday. Buoyed by the impressive 6-1 road triumph, the Retrievers are now ranked #71 in the nation by College Tennis Online. Kaasalainen also successfully partnered for the first time withJana Karaskova at #1 doubles, as the duo came away with an 8-3 triumph. The Pirkkala, Finland native is now 8-2 in singles competition this spring. A doubles specialist, Kaasalainen has compiled an 8-2 mark this season and maintains acareer doubles record of 25-4 at UMBC.
