KARASKOVA WINS NEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

Jana Karaskova is 40-5 in singles competition at UMBC.

UMBC junior Jana Karaskova earned Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, it was announced by the league on October 1. Karaskova did not drop a set in winning the “B” flight singles title at the Quinnipiac Invitational over the weekend. As the top seed, she dropped just one game inwins over opponents from Hartford and UConn, then knocked off Binghamton’s Justina Hakimi, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinals, before ousting UConn’s Jen LoRusso, 6-1, 6-3, in the title match. Karaskova, who has earned first team all-NEC honors the last two years, has compiled a career singles mark of 40-5. The Retrievers excelled at the Quinnipiac Invitational last weekend. Freshman Ale Pedergnana (Holliswood, NY) took home the “C” flight singles title,prevailing, 6-0, 6-1, in the finals over Dartmouth’s Ann Scott. Pedergnana and Aimee Lim (New City, NY) reached the “C” flight doubles finals before falling toUConn, 8-5.
