KAASALAINEN, LIM WIN SINGLES TITLES AT MARTHA THORN INVITATIONAL

Junior Tia Kaasalainen and sophomore Aimee Lim each won singles titles at the Martha Thorn Invitational held at West Virginia University. Kaasalainen, the #3 seed in Flight B Singles, won two matches before upsetting #1 seed Jenny Watkins of West Virginia in the semis. Then, she defeated Melissa Day of the Mountaineers, 6-4, 3-6, (12-10) to take the title. Lim, the #1 seed at C Flight singles, won a pair of matches before having to face teammate FR Alessandra Pedergnana in the semis. Lim prevailed, 3-6, 6-3, (10-8), and then defeated Katie Riedlinger of Duquesne, 6-0, 7-5, to take the title. Lim and Pedergnana combined to win the C Flight Doubles. The tandem defeated Army, 8-1, West Liberty, 8-4, and defeated Pitt, 8-5, to capture the title.
