BALTIMORE—The third annual “Advantage Retriever” fundraiser was held Friday, May 15 at the Retriever Tennis Complex. This event is to help raise funds to make improvements to the tennis complex and has raised over $4,000 to date. The round-robin tournament was won by two-time winner Linda Brown, wife of UMBC Athletic Director Dr. Charles Brown, and Robyn Mannix, mother of current UMBC women’s tennis player Emily Mannix. “Advantage Retriever” featured current and former UMBC tennis athletes, including Djan Gusmao, who traveled from Brazil for the event, and other Retriever staff including Phil Stern, head coach of the women’s basketball team. Sponsors of this yearly tennis fundraiser included the Dave Mast Tennis Academy and Color Scan. UMBC tennis head coach Rob Hubbard announced the next “Advantage Retriever” event will take place in September, as this year’s affair was postponed due to hurricane Ike.
