Voorman Earns A Pair of America East All-Conference Honors; Savage-Pollock, Joy Adewumi, Mannix Also Cited

Cambridge, Mass.—UMBC junior Fredi Voorman (Talinn, Estonia) earned a pair of post-season accolades, and three other Retrievers were cited as the America East Conference announced its 2009 All-Conference teams.

Voorman earned Second-Team All-Conference honors at No. 2 singles and teamed with senior Nick Savage-Pollock (Montreal, Quebec) to earn First-Team honors at No. 1 doubles. On the women’s side, senior Joy Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore Emily Mannix (Hillsborough, N.J.) each earned Second-Team All-Conference honors at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.

Voorman posted a 14-4 mark in singles competition this spring, including a 12-3 record at the No. 2 slot. He finished the year on a six-match winning streak, including a 6-4, 6-1 win over Stony Brook’s Halvar Dil, who earned All-Conference Second-Team honors at No 1 singles.

The duo of Savage-Polloack and Voorman won their last 12 matches in the spring and posted a brilliant record of 25-6 for the 2008-09 campaign. The combination finished their partnership with a 40-15 all-time record in doubles play.

Adewumi was undefeated in five matches at No. 5 singles this spring and 7-2 overall. Her final dual match career mark was 40-23. Mannix won seven of 10 singles matches at the Nos. 4-6 slots this spring.
