The UMBC men’s tennis team (10-6) won its fourth consecutive match, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-2, on April 11 at the Retriever Tennis Complex.
The women evened their record at 5-5, recording a similar 5-2 victory over the Knights.
Head Coach Rob Hubbard’s men swept the three doubles matches and took four of the six singles matches. Junior Chris Meyer (New Market, Md./Urbana) and freshman Allen Tsang (Wellesley, Mass.) combined to win at No. 2 doubles, edging the duo of Marco Jemesic/Alex Jome, 8-5, then each triumphed in singles competition. Meyer won at No. 3 singles, as Jemesic retired after trailing, 3-1, in the first set. Tsang rallied to defeat Keichro Adachi, 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (6) at No. 5 singles.
On the women’s side, freshman Carmen Jackman (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) won for the fifth time in the last six matches and improved to 7-3 this spring with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jessica DeCarlos at No. 4 singles. Jackman is also 13-5 in doubles play this spring, and she combined with senior Cornelia Carapcea (Constanta, Romania) to win, 8-5, over DeCarlos and Julija Korshunova at No. 2 doubles.
Junior Alice Chen (North Potomac, Md.) and senior Joy Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz) won at No. 3 and No. 5 singles respectively.
The women return to action on Monday when they play a rescheduled match at Richmond, while the men host St. Joseph’s on Tuesday.
