FOURTH-RANKED DUKE UPENDS UMBC IN NCAA WOMEN'S TENNIS FIRST ROUND

Durham, NC--Fourth-ranked Duke defeated UMBC, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships held at Ambler Tennis Stadium. Duke improved to 24-4 on the year, while UMBC finished another impressive season at 19-6.The Blue Devils captured the doubles point, as #1 Hillary Adams/Kelly McCain defeated UMBC's Anita Pushpanathan/Jana Karaskova, 8-1, and the #2 team of Julie DeRoo and Saras Arasu upended Tia Kaasalainen/Lana Khvalina, 8-0. In singles action, McCain, the 5th ranked player in the nation, defeated Pushpanatahn at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. #3 seed Ioana Plesu defeated Kaasalainen, 6-1, 6-0, and #5 Katie Granson defeated UMBC's Aimee Lim, 6-0, 6-0.
