Men's Tennis Opens Fall Campaign at Cornell Invitational

--The UMBC men’s tennis team opened the 2008-09 schedule by competing in the Conrcell Fall Invitational this weekend.

Senior Nick Savage-Pollock (Montreal, Quebec) and junior Fredi Voorman (Talinn, Estonia) each advanced to the semifinal round of the A singles flight. In addition, the duo combined to reach the same round in the A doubles flight, but were edged, 9-7 by Jeremy Feldman/Andy Gauthier of host Cornell.

With a pair of wins, junior Logan Bricker (Shendandoah, Va.) and sophomore John Dixon (Lemoyne, Pa.) also advanced to the semifinal round in the B doubles flight before dropping a heartbreaking 9-8 (5) decision to Cornell’s Ashish Bandari/Bryant Yung.

Nick Savage-Pollock, UMBC def. Jon Epstein, Stony Brook, 7-6 (8), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (7); QF: def. Josh Goldstein, Cornell, 6-3, 6-4; SF: lost to Ivan Rummel*, Stony Brook, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Joe Adewumi, UMBC lost to Conrad Olson, Middlebury, 6-3, 6-2.
