Tennis Standout Cornelia Carapcea Earns ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District II Women's At-Large First Team Honors

5/22/2008

Baltimore—UMBC junior tennis standout Cornelia Carapcea (Constanta, Romania) has been named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District II women's at-large first team.

Carapcea posted a record of 12-3 this spring at No. 4 singles and had a total of 30 match victories (30-13, singles/doubles) throughout the 2007-08 season. The Financial Economics/Information Systems double major has 77 match wins in her career, in addition to maintaining a perfect 4.00 grade-point average.

She has earned Second Team All America East honors at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles in each of the past two seasons and is a perfect 6-0 in America East Championship play in her career. Carapcea was cited as the team's co-Most Valuable Athlete this spring and will soon be inducted into the National Collegiate Honor Society. She was named to America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2006 and 2007 and has earned Dean's List honors in all five semesters at UMBC.

Carapcea joins softball’s Dana Shepherd as District II first team honorees this spring.
