Nine Retriever Tennis Players Earn All America East Conference Honors

Cambridge, Mass.--Six UMBC men’s tennis players and three women’s players earned America East Conference all-league honors.

 

Sophomores Chris Meyer (New Market, Md.) and Fredi Voorman (Talinn, Estonia) each earned Second Team All America East honors in singles and doubles and were both named to the six-member All Academic squad. Meyer earned his honor at No. 1 singles, while Voorman competed at No. 5 singles and the duo combined at the No. 3 doubles slot.

 

Senior Fernando Ferreria (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was the lone Retriever to earn first team honors, earning the distinction at No. 6 singles. Ferreria and junior partner Nick Savage-Pollock (Montreal, Quebec) earned all-league accolades at No. 2 doubles.

 

Senior No. 3 Irfan Shamasdin (Pickering, Ont.) and classmate No. 4 David Jackson (Eldersburg, Md.) earned Second Team honors in singles competition.

 

On the women’s side, freshman No. 6 Emily Mannix (Hillsborough, N.J) earned Second Team All America East honors in singles, while juniors Joy Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Cornelia Carapcea (Constanta, Romania) earned Second Team honors at No. 3 doubles.
