Both the menís and womenís tennis teams dropped matches this week, as the men (4-2) lost a tight 4-3 decision at Army, while the women (1-3) fell, 7-0 at Temple.
Army won the critical doubles point, despite an 8-3 Retriever win at No. 2 by the duo of junior Nick Savage-Pollock (Montreal, Quebec) and senior Fernando Ferreira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The Retrievers won all three singles matches at the bottom of the ladder, as senior David Jackson defeated Tripp Johnson at the No. 4 position, 6-4, 6-0, sophomore Logan Bricker (Shenandoah, Va.) edged Jordan Girdley at No. 5, 6-3, 7-6 (3) and Ferreira got past Chris Albornoz at No. 6, 7-6 (7), 6-2.
But No. 1 Chris Meyer (Urbana, Md.) dropped a tough first set and fell to Phil Muhawi, 7-6 (4), 6-2 and No. 2 Savage-Pollock had a similar fate, falling 7-5, 6-3 to Eddie Kang.
On the womenís side, the No. 1 doubles team of senior Pascaline Cette (Menton, France) and sophomore Alice Chen (No. Potomac, Md.) triumphed, 8-4, but that was the Retrieversí lone victory of the match. Cette took her opponent to three sets at No. 3 singles, but lost a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 decision to Lucie Pazderova.
