7/23/2007

  • 2006-07 UMBC Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll

—Junior Cornelia Carapcea has been named America East Conference Scholar-Athlete in the sport of women’s tennis for the 2006-07 academic year, conference officials announced today.

In addition, 159 UMBC student-athletes were named to the league’s Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll.

A committee of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives chose an honoree in each of the winter and spring championship sports. Each honoree, named America East Scholar-Athlete, was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.20.

Carapcea, a second-team all-conference selection in both No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles, helped lead the Retrievers to the America East Championship finals. A member of the America East All-Academic team, she posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point average GPA and has a 4.0 cumulative GPA.   The native of Constanta, Romania has 47 victories in two seasons at UMBC and is on pace to earn her undergraduate degree in three years. She is a double major in information systems/financial economics.
