Junior David Jackson was named America East Men's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Tuesday, April 3.
Jackson had a flawless week, winning all four singles matches and four doubles matches, helping the Retrievers (10-4-1) to a 3-0-1 ledger. He defeated Matt Glasgow, of St. Joseph’s, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at No. 3 singles and won his No. 2 doubles matches as UMBC forged a 3-3 tie with the host Hawks on March 27 in a match halted by darkness. He won a match at the No. 2 singles position vs. Howard and produced a crucial win for UMBC vs. Stony Brook, defeating Ilan Shvartz, S, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles as UMBC pulled out a 4-3 win over the defending league champions.
Jackson has a six-match winning streak in tact in singles, and he and partner Irfan Shamasdin have won ten straight doubles matches at the No. 2 positions. Classmate Fernando Ferreira won the men's award last week.
