Men's, Women's Tennis Return Home and Sweep Fairleigh Dickinson

Baltimore,Md.—The UMBC men’s and women’s tennis teams swept visiting Fairleigh Dickinson in sunny, breezy conditions at the UMBC Tennis Complex. The women blanked the Knights, 7-0, and improved to 6-4 on the spring, while the men defeated FDU, 6-1 and are now 7-4 on the campaign.

 

The women did not drop a set to FDU. At No. 5, senior Adriana Fonseca blanked Tricia Small, 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 6, freshman Barbara Couto posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Stacey Honore. The only tight match occurred at No. 2 singles, where sophomore Joy Adewumi overcame Jessica DeCarlos, 7-6 (3), 7-5.

 

After a 6-1 win over Bucknell on Saturday night, the men posted the same margin of victory over the Knights on Sunday afternoon. All three Retriever doubles teams posted convincing victories, including an 8-2 win by the No. 1 team of sophomore Nick Savage-Pollock and freshman Fredi Voorman. That duo now has  a national ranking of No. 85 by collegetennisonline.com. Savage-Pollock also prevailed in a tough No. 5 singles match, defeating Kyle Eddins, 7-5, 7-5.
