Men's, Women's Tennis Sweep Quinnipiac

The men’s tennis team improved to 5-3 on the season with a 7-0 win over Quinnipiac on Wednesday.
UMBC dropped only one set to the Bobcats, but No. 2 freshman Chris Meyer rallied to defeat John Hughes, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Meyer improved to 18-5 in singles (fall and spring) in his first season at UMBC. Junior No. 1 Irfan Shamasdin was extremely impressive with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Michael Racioppo. Junior No. 3 David Jackson, sophomore No. 4 Nick Savage-Pollock and junior No. 6 Fernando Ferreira each only lost two games in their straight set wins.
The women also raised their record to 5-3 with a 6-1 win over the visiting Quinnipiac Bobcats on Wednesday. Three Retrievers, freshman No. 1 Alice Chen, junior No. 3 Pascaline Cette and sophomore No. 4 Cornelia Carapcea each won in straight sets and blanked their foes, 6-0, in the second set. The Retrievers won three tight doubles matches, and the No. 2 team of seniors Elizabeth Anderson and Adriana Fonseca pulled their match out, 9-8 (2).
Both UMBC teams face another former Northeast Conference foe when they host Robert Morris on Friday.
