Women's Tennis Defeats George Washington, 5-2

    The women’s tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over George Washington in a match played in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

    UMBC’s #1 and #3 doubles teams posted victories to give the Retrievers the doubles point. At #1 junior Pascaline Cette and freshman Alice Chen defeated Kendall Swenson and Verena Knoedler, 8-5, while at #3, sophomores Joy Adewumi and Cornelia Carapcea edged Tracy Stecko and R. Hoing, 8-3.

    Adewumi and Cette also captured their singles matches and Nos. 2 and 3 respectively. Adewumi defeated Maduri Jha, 6-0, 6-4, while Cette whipped Stecko, 6-1, 6-0. The Retrievers also won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles as senior Adriana Fonseca defeated Knoedler at #5, 6-4, 6-3 and freshman Barbara Couto handled Michele Style, 6-3, 6-2.

    UMBC is now 2-2 on the season and is slated to host Hartford on Saturday, March 3.
