Men's Tennis Edges Boston University, 4-3; Women Fall to Defending League Champs

    The UMBC men’s tennis team evened its record at 2-2 on the young season with a 4-3 victory over America East Conference rival Boston University on Friday, Feb. 2.

     

    UMBC captured the doubles points as the top two Retriever tandems edged their counterparts. Sophomore Nick Savage-Pollock and freshman Fredi Voorman edged Barrett Wolf and Giulio Galloratti at #1 doubles, 9-7, while juniors Irfan Shamasdin and Fernando Ferreira nipped Charles Weinstein and Jeff Chudacoff, 8-6.

     

    The Retrievers took the #2, #4, and #5 singles matches to capture the match. Freshman Chris Meyer defeated Weinstein at #2, 6-1, 6-1, while Voorman edged Jared Kobren at #4, 6-2, 6-4. Ferreira triumphed at #5, taking a first set tie-breaker from Miron Nissim and winning the match, 7-6 (4), 6-3.

     

    The Retriever women (0-1) were blanked, 7-0, by the defending league champion Terriers on Saturday, Feb. 3.
