WOMEN'S TENNIS NIPS TOWSON, 4-3

    Baltimore, Md.—A short-handed UMBC women’s tennis team (2-7) edged Towson, 4-3, at the UMBC Courts.The Retrievers had only four healthy players available, but won all four singles matches after dropping the doubles point. UMBC defaulted at #3 doubles and the Tigers #2 duo of Boghumila Patzer and Jessica Woolfolk defeated UMBC’s Joy Adewumi and Elizabeth Anderson, 8-4. The Retrievers #1 duo of Ale Pedergnana and Cornelia Carapcea defeated Towson’s Eva Otanke and Kelly Parsons, 8-5.UMBC won the four singles matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Pedergnana defeated Patzer, 6-2, 6-4 to improve to 5-4 on the season. Carapcea edged Otanke, 6-2, 6-3 at the #2 slot, while Adewumi defeated Woolfolk, 6-3, 6-3 at #3 singles. In the tightest match, Anderson prevailed at the No. 4 position, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
