MEN'S TENNIS EDGED BY GEORGETOWN IN TOWSON INVITATIONAL FINALE

The UMBC men's tennis team lost a 3-2 decision to Georgetown in the championship match of the Towson Invitational in Towson, MD. In the decisive match, UMBC #1 seed Josef Novotny defeated GU's Marc Lohser, 6-2, 6-2, and the doubles team of Chris Cetateanu/Luis Baraldi triumphed, 6-3, 6-2. But #2 Eric Nudo dropped a two-set match, and #3 Mikhail Kouznetsov (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) and #4 Dmitri Bondar (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5)) lost tough three-setters and Hoyas managed to capture the title. The Retrievers did not lose another match the entire weekend, with 5-0 sweeps over Monmouth, Johns Hopkins, and Towson (semi-finals). Novotny was 3-0 in singles competition and teammed with Cetateanu to win a doubles match over Johns Hopkins.
