Senior Josef Novotny has achieved UMBC’s highest individual ranking in men’s tennis ever, as he has climbed to #4 in the Northeast Region in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings as of December 4, 2003.

Novotny just completed a brilliant fall campaign, winning the “A” flight singles championship at the Cornell Invitational, reaching the semi-finals of the Omni Hotels ITA Northeast Regional Championships, and then capturing the 2003 Penn Tennis Classic. He compiled a singles record of 16-1 this fall, and improved his three-year UMBC record to 66-13, all at #1 singles. Novotny’s lone loss this fall occurred in the semis of the Northeast Regional Championships to the top-ranked player in the region, Brown’s Jamie Cerretani.
