Background: One of the top players in the southwest region and was ranked No. 1 in the state of Arizona during the 2007-08 year… Finished in the top three in the state (5A) championships in three of the last four years and took the state title in 2006… Named the 2006-07 5A-II northwest region Player of the Year and the 2008 Male Athlete of the Year for North Canyon High School… The younger brother of current UMBC standout tennis student-athlete Joy Adewumi was the lone player to defeat future Oregon Duck Geoff Embry in that season at the 2006 Kiwanis Invitational finals… Led the Rattlers to a second-place finish at the state tournament in both 2006 and 2007… Also lettered in track and field, placing second in the 5A-I central Phoenix region in the long jump… Possesses a distinguished resumé, including citations as the president of the National Honor Society chapter, a finalist for the 2006 Phoenix Outstanding Young Man of the Year, and the 2008 Outstanding Student (and Athlete) of the Year at North Canyon… Considering a major in Biochemistry and a career as an orthopedic surgeon… His other older sister Hannah is on the tennis team at Delaware State University and he has younger sisters Rebekah (14) and Sarah (9)… A talented musician who plays the saxophone, guitar, piano and drums… Son of Grace and Julius Adewumi… Joseph Oluseyi Adewumi was born on April 23, 1990.
