2/10/2003

Baltimore, MD – UMBC will once again host both the Northeast Conference Women’s Swimming Championships and the NEC Men’s Swimming Invitational at the UMBC Natatorium beginning Friday, February 14, until Sunday, February 16. Preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. each day, and finals will resume at 6 p.m. on all three days.

Participating schools for the women’s conference championships include Central Connecticut State, Howard, UMBC, Sacred Heart, St. Francis (NY), St. Francis (PA), and Wagner. On the men’s side, the participants are Central Connecticut State, Howard, UMBC, and St. Francis (NY).

According to a poll of league coaches, the UMBC women’s team has been picked as the preseason favorite to win the conference title. Under the direction of 2002 NEC Coach of the Year, Chad Cradock, the Retrievers will be looking to repeat in 2003, as they captured their third NEC crown in four years when they pulled away from the field in last year’s championship, scoring 235 more points than the closest competitor.
