Baltimore, MD –
UMBC dominated early in the meet, clinching the top spot in every heat of the first six events. Overall, the Retriever men were led by juniors Jakub Sroczynski and Brad Green, who each won three events. Sroczynski bested all swimmers in the 200 backstroke (1:53.65), 200 (1:42.92), and 500 freestyle (4:47.80), while Green captured first place in the 50 freestyle (21.92), 100 freestyle (47.90), and 100 backstroke (53.24). In the 50 free, Marist’s Ricky Kapusta tied Green for the top spot, while Red Fox Trevor Charles tied Green in the 100 back.
On the women’s side, junior Astrid Sperling once more led the Retrievers, winning the 100 (59.07) and 200 backstroke (2:04.72), and the 200 individual medley (2:10.85). Junior Holly Wittsack, sophomore Lindsay Prather, and freshman Elyse Gibson also provided ample support, as they each won two events.
Individual winners for Marist included Charles in the 100 back, and Matthew Castillo in the 200 IM (1:56.86). On the women’s side, Jessica Miller captured first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:12.05.
The meet against Old Dominion and Marist concluded UMBC’s regular season. They will return to action on February 14 at the UMBC Natatorium for the start of the Northeast Conference Tournament (women) and Invitational (men).
