RETRIEVER SWIMMING SWEEPS GEORGE WASHINGTON

The UMBC men's and women's swimming and diving squads each improved to 4-2 on the season with a dual meet victory over visiting George Washington University. The women triumphed, 134-103 over GW's women (3-3), while the men posted a 131-75 victory over the Colonial men (0-7).The women opened the meet by setting a UMBC pool record in the 400 medley relay, posting a time of 3:56.16. Junior Astrid Sperling won a pair of events for the Retrievers, capturing the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley. Freshman Christina Boland (50 free, 100 free) and junior Kristen Fagley (200 free, 500 free) won two events each for the Colonials. Sophomore diver Jessica Jaross captured both the 1m and 3m events for GW.Three Retriever men took two events each. Junior Josh Farley captured the 100 freestyle and 200 I.M., sophomore Jakub Sroczynski won the 200 backstroke and 1000 freestyle, and freshman Geza Szabo took the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly. Junior diver Jonathon Gdowik won both the 1m and 3m events for the Retrievers.
