SPERLING GARNERS SECOND CONSECUTIVE NEC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD

Astrid Sperling garners NEC Athlete of the Week accolades for the second consecutive time this season after leading the Retrievers to a third place finish among a field of eleven teams at the highly competitive Patriot Invitational this past weekend. Sperling took home a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with an NCAA qualifying time of 2:00.87, breaking meet and school records in the process. She also was part of the 400 medley relay team, finishing in a USA Swimming National Championship qualifying time of 3:53.26 to set a new school record. In addition, Sperling claimed second place honors in the 100 backstroke (57.25), breaking the current UMBC record.
