SWIMMING & DIVING SQUADS SWEEP TOWSON

Towson, Md. - UMBC junior ASTRID SPERLING won two individual events to lead the Retrievers' women's swimming & diving squad  (3-2) to a 130-107 non-conference victory over Towson (3-4) on Saturday afternoon at Burdick Pool. Junior BRAD GREEN finished in first place in two individual events to lead the Retriever men (3-2) to a 131-105 non-conference victory over the Tigers (6-1) on Saturday afternoon at Burdick Pool.

The loss snaps the Tiger men's season-opening six meet win streak.

Green finished in first place in the 50-free with a time of :21.57, while winning the 100-free in :47.39. He also swam in the Retrievers' 400-medley relay team, which finished in first place with a time fo 3:32.04.

Junior JON GDOWIK finished in first place in both the one-meter diving event and the three-meter diving event with scores of 185.04 and 276.30, respectively.

Sperling led the women by finishing first in the 200-individual medley (2:08.86) and the 200-back (2:04.32) events. She was also part of UMBC's 400-medley relay team, which finished first with a time of 4:03.59.

Sophomore diver PEGGY PRESTON took first place in both diving events, winning the one-meter event with 206.40 points and the three-meter diving event with 206.475 points.

Junior ALLISON PAUL led the Tigers with a pair of wins in the 1000-free (10:37.11) and the 500-free (5:12.22). Sophomore JEN IRBY also won two events, finishing first in the 50-free with a time of :24.33 and the 100-free (:53.82).

The Retrievers never trailed in the meet after jumping out to a 15-2 lead following the 400-medley relay event.
