RETRIEVER SWIM TEAMS FALL TO NAVY

The Navy men's swimming and diving team won the last three events of the afternoon to put the meet out of reach against UMBC for an 132-110 victory Saturday at Lejeune Hall, while the Retriever women were edged, 163.5-136.5.

On the mens side, the Mids were paced by winning eight of the 13 contested events. For the Retrievers, Carlos Canepa swam to first place in both the 400 and 800 free, while co-captain Karl Strauss came in first on the 200 breast. Other first place winners for UMBC included Geza Szabo in the 200 fly and Jakub Sroczynski in the 200 back.

On the women’s side, Astrid Sperling led the Retrievers as she captured first in the 100 and 200 back, as well as the 200 IM. Lindsey Prather also had an excellent meet, coming in first in both the 100 and 200 breast. Other first place winners for the Retrievers included Katrin Harrsen in the 200 free and Holly Wittsack  in the 200 fly.
