UMBC Swimming and Diving Controls Marist Saturday on Senior Day

BALTIMORE-The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams won 25 out of 32 events Saturday as the men defeated Marist 162-127, while the women defeated the Red Foxes 169-120. With the wins the Retriever men moved to 4-3-1 on the season, while the women improved to 4-6.
Junior Sam Maccherola (Woolford, Md./South Carroll/Tennessee) earned three golds on the day in the 200 and 500 free and the leadoff in the 200 free relay team. Her time of 1:51.71 in the 200 free was the fastest UMBC time this season and fourth fastest in school history.
Junior Tereza Kaplanova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium J.G. Jankovskeho) showed off her versatility against the Red Foxes, winning the 100 back in 1:00.13, the 200 breast in 2:24.83 and the 200 individual medley in 2:10.03. She was also a part of the first place 200 medley relay team that finished in a time of 1:50.72.
Sophomore Erin Wohlers (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) earned two individual wins in the 50 and 100 free events in 25.20 and 54.43, respectively. Junior Lindsay Sherman (
