Both Retriever Swimming and Diving Teams Defeat Rider, 161-137

BALTIMORE—The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened their home dual meet schedule Saturday, with both teams defeating Rider 161-137 at the UMBC Natatorium. The men improved to 1-1 and the women to 1-2 on the season.

Junior Sam Maccherola (Woolford, Md./South Carroll/Tennessee) was the only other individual winner for the Retrievers, taking the 200 free in a time of 1:55.90. The 400 free relay of senior Daniele Surkovich (
The Retrievers return to action Saturday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Navy. The women’s meet will start at noon, while the men’s meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
