Bronson and Cantwell to Represent UMBC Swimming at USA Swimming Spring Championships

    100 and 200-yard America East breaststroke champion Tina Cantwell will compete at the USA Swimming Spring Championships this week.

    100-yard America East freestyle champion Justin Bronson will compete at the USA Swimming Spring Championships this week.

    BALTIMORE—UMBC sophomore swimmers Justin Bronson and Tina Cantwell will be competing at the USA Swimming Spring Championships this week, from March 27-31, at the Nassau County Aquatic Center this weekend in East Meadow, N.Y.

     

    Cantwell, the 2007 America East Champion in the 100 (1:03.93, 1:03.86 preliminaries) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.14, 2:16.19p) events, part of the winning 400-yard medley relay, and sixth place finisher in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.73, 2:08.81p) will look to make her mark in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke, as well as the 200-meter I.M. at the USA Spring Championships.  Cantwell enters the meet seeded 32nd in the 200m breaststroke, 41st in the 100m breaststroke, and 106th in the 200m I.M.  She also holds a share of the current school record-holding 200 and 400-yard medley relays.

     

    Bronson, the 2007 America East Champion in the 100-yard freestyle (45.98, 46.50p), part of the champion 800-yard freestyle relay, and runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (50.02, 49.51p) and 500-yard freestyle (4:29.43, 4:30.44p), will compete in the 100, 200, and 400-meter freestyle events, as well as the 100-meter butterfly.  He enters the meet seeded 55th in the 100, 41st in the 200, and 22nd in the 400m freestyle events, and 56th in the 100m butterfly.  Bronson has made his mark on the UMBC record board as well, holding part of the school record 800-yard freestyle relay.

     

    Preliminary heats begin each day at 9:00 a.m. with the 100m freestyle and 200m breaststroke being contested on Wednesday, 200m freestyle on Thursday, 400m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, and 100m butterfly on Friday, and the 200m I.M. on Saturday.
