Retrievers Take Three of Four Weekly Conference Swimming and Diving Awards

Ashley Houghton earned her third Diver of the Week award this season.

Evan Roseberry garnered his first career Swimmer of the Week accolade.

Jeff Salgado earned hsi fourth Diver of the Week honor this season.

Boston-UMBC sophomore Evan Roseberry (Sinking Springs, Pa./Wilson) was named America East Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while seniors Jeff Salgado (Glen Rock, Pa./South Western/St. Bonaventure) and Ashley Houghton (Frederick, Md./Urbana/Pittsburgh) were tabbed Men’s and Women’s Diver of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday.

 

Roseberry won three events and broke a pool record in UMBC's 137-75 victory at Bucknell on Dec. 3. The sophomore took first in the 500-free (4:40.08), the 1,000-free (9:31.66), and the 200-fly (1:54.99). Roseberry’s time in the 1,000-free broke the Kinney Natatorium record and is also UMBC's fastest of the season. He has won 10 events on the season. The performer of the week award is the first of his career.

 

Salgado swept the diving events in UMBC's victory. The senior scored 280.65 on the one-meter board and 246.75 in the three-meter competition. Salgado has won both diving events at four meets this season and has nine victories on the year. This is his fourth performer of the week honor of the season and the ninth of his career

 

Houghton swept the diving events in UMBC's 129-106 victory at Bucknell. The senior scored 267.23 on the one-meter board and 252.00 in the three-meter competition. Houghton has won both diving events at six of seven dual meets this season and has 13 victories on the year. This is her third performer of the week award this season and the seventh of her career.

 

The Retrievers have a five-week break from dual meet competition before returning to the pool on Jan. 10, 2007, at Howard University.
