SALGADO 18TH, HOUGHTON 21ST AT NCAA ZONE DIVING

  • NCAA Zone 'A' Diving Championship Day 1 Results

    Jeff Salgado qualified for the finals of the men's 3-meter diving competition.

    Annapolis, Md.-Junior divers Jeff Salgado and Ashley Houghton each competed on the first day of competition at the NCAA Zone ‘A’ Diving Championships at the U.S. Naval Academy Friday, with Salgado placing 18th on the 3-meter board and Houghton finishing 21st on the 1-meter board.

     

    Salgado scored 238.40 points in the finals of the men’s 3-meter competition to place 18th overall. He qualified for the finals session with a score of 269.35 for the 14th-seed.

     

    Houghton scored 199.85 in the women’s 1-meter prelims and did not qualify for the finals.

     

    Pittsburgh’s Jeremy Stultz scored a 368.15 to win the men’s 3-meter event, while Harvard’s Samantha Papadakis won the women’s 1-meter competition with a score of 502.40.

     

    Navy hosts one of the five zone championship meets this weekend to determine the qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA National Championship. A total of four men and four women will advance from the Navy meet to the national meet. Stultz and Papadakis were the lone two divers who solidified berths in the national championships Friday.

     

    Competition continues Saturday with the men’s 1-meter and the women’s 3-meter events, while the 10-meter platform competition for both men and women are slated for Sunday. Saturday’s session begins at 1 p.m., with Sunday’s session schedule to start at 11 a.m.
