KARRER NAMED AMERICA EAST CO-SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Ryan Karrer was named America East Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Boston-UMBC junior Ryan Karrer (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) was named America East Co-Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4, the conference announced Tuesday.

Karrer swept the distance events against Bucknell Dec. 3 for the fifth time this season, winning the 500-free in 4:41.14 and the 1,000-free in 9:38.63. He helped the Retrievers move to 4-3 on the season and knock off Bucknell, which is ranked 11th in the first Mid-Major Power Rankings.

Karrer shares the award with Binghamton’s David Holmes, who broke the Bearcats’ 1,000-free record against Cornell.

Other conference performers of the week were New Hampshire’s Kary Goodman (Women’s Swimmer of the Week), Boston University’s Brian Lawler (Men’s Diver of the Week) and New Hampshire’s Shana Dege and Boston’s Alex Crerar (Women’s Co-Divers of the Week).

The Retrievers have five weeks off for training before returning to action Wednesday, Jan. 11, when they host regional foe Howard at 2 p.m. at the UMBC Natatorium.
