SZABO EARNS DISTRICT II AT-LARGE SECOND TEAM ACADEMIC ALL AMERICA HONORS

UMBC junior swimmer Geza Szabo (Szolnok, Hungary) has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II University Division At-Large Second Team by The College Sports Information Directors of America.

Szabo, who maintains a 3.74 grade point average in Financial Economics, was the 2005 America East champion in the 200 butterfly. He also placed third in the 100 fly for the Retrievers, who captured their second straight America East title and eighth straight league crown overall. Szabo captured silver in the 200 butterfly at the ECAC Championships, a year after he won gold in the same event at that meet. He is a former Northeast Conference Rookie of the Meet at that conference’s 2003 Invitational event.  

To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00.  He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must ave completed at least one full academic year at the institution.  CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America teams since 1952.CoSIDA's District II covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
