FRESHMAN SWIMMER LINDSEY PRATHER CAPTURES NEC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AND ECAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK HONORS

12/5/2001

After capturing both the 100 and 200 breast in UMBC record times at the Cavalier Invitational over the weekend, Retriever freshman swimmer Lindsey Prather was named the Northeast Conference Athlete of the Week today. In addition, she was also named ECAC Women's Swimmer of the Week. Prather was sensational in Charlottesville, swimming the 100 breast in 1:03.69 and the 200 breast in 2:15.84, both times eclipsing previous UMBC records that she had set earlier in the year. Her 200 breast time was especially impressive as she knocked nearly four seconds off her previous best of 2:19.82. Both of Prather's finishing marks surpassed the 2002 NCAA "B" provisional qualifying times. Besides the breast events, Prather also finished eighth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.00. Overall, Prather has surpassed Retriever records in both the 100 and 200 breast a combined five times just five meets into her initial campaign. Her best time in the 100 breast is more than five seconds faster than the closest competitor in the NEC and her 200 mark is over 10 seconds faster than the NEC's next best.
