LESSLIE CHOSEN AS MOST OUTSTANDING ROOKIE IN SWIMMING FOR 2005; UMBC COACHES SELECTED AS MEN'S STAFF OF THE YEAR

Freshman Rachel Lesslie was selected Most Outstanding Rookie at the conclusion of the 2005 America East Swimming & Diving Championships this past weekend. Throughout the competition, she took gold in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:16.10, fourth in the 500 free at 5:04.37, and seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.44. In addition, she was part of the bronze medal- winning 800 freestyle relay team.
On the men's side, UMBC continued to dominate the championship as it earned it’s second-straight America East title. In just their second year of competition in America East, the Retrievers cruised to a 309-point victory and earned the Swimming Coaching Staff of the Year award for the second year in a row. The recipients were Head Coach Chad Cradock, Assistant Coaches Tom Himes and Chris Gibeau, and Diving Coach Andrew Hastings.
