MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING EXTENDS ITS LEAD AFTER DAY TWO OF AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS; WOMEN REMAIN THIRD

Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC men's swimming & diving team extended its lead after two days of competition at the America East Championships, as they now have 604 total points. Their closest competitor is Binghamton with 418 points. On the women's side, the Retrievers remain in third place with 327 points, trailing Northeastern (558) and New Hampshire (496).

On day two, the UMBC men were led by freshman Karn Yimsomruay, who won the 400 IM in 4:03.99. The Retriever men's 800 freestyle relay team of freshman Zach Hurd, sophomore Ryan Karrer, junior Adam Blais, and senior Jakub Sroczynski also finished first with a time of 6:58.13.

Other swimmers who garnered points for UMBC include Brian Jaeggi and Andrew Cheung, who finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 400 IM, Geza Szabo and Eric Skrabacz, who finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 butterfly, and Sroczynski and Blais, who captured silver and bronze, respectively, in the 200 freestyle. In addition, senior Aaron Schenker claimed silver in the 100 breaststroke, while junior Nebojsa Zimonjic took bronze in the 100 backstroke.

On the women's side, UMBC was led by senior Lindsey Prather, who took third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.84. Senior Jessica Prosen finished fourth in the 400 IM (4:34.58), while Amber Harris also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.79. In addition, the Retrievers' 800 freestyle relay team of Harris, freshman Rachel Lesslie, sophomore Agnes Stanislawska, and junior Elyse Gibson claimed the bronze medal with a time of 7:48.16.

The 2005 America East Swimming & Diving Championships will conclude tomorrow, February 20.
