UMBC MEN LEAD AFTER DAY ONE OF AMERICA EAST SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS; WOMEN IN THIRD

Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC men's swimming and diving team is currently in first place with 281 points after a day of competition at the 2005 America East Championships, while the Retriever women are in third with 161 points. On the men's side, UMBC's closest competition is Binghamton with 175 points, while the Retriever women trail defending champion Northeastern (246) and New Hampshire (195).

On day one, the Retriever men were led by Jakub Sroczynski, who captured first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:38.27, and Adam Blais, who won the 200 IM in 1:54.03. Other individuals who gathered points for UMBC include Ryan Karrer (2nd in 500 free), Karn Yisomruay (2nd in 200 IM), Tim Conway (5th in 50 free), and Jeff Salgado (4th in 1-m diving).

On the women's side, UMBC was led by Agnes Stanislawska, who came in second in in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.13. Rachel Lesslie also made contributions, placing fourth in the 500 free at 5:04.37. Elyse Gibson was the Retrievers' top-place finisher (8th) in the 50 free, while Katie Spohnholz also came in eighth in 3-m diving.
