DAY ONE SWIMMING & DIVING RESULTS FROM PATRIOT INVITATIONAL

After day one of the George Mason Patriot Invitational, the UMBC men’s swimming & diving team is in third place with 217 points, while the Retriever women are fourth with 123 points. Duke leads the competition on both sides with 265.50 and 263 points for the men and women, respectively. Other participants this year include American, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, North Carolina-Wilmington, Seton Hall, Shippensburg, St. Francis (women only), and Yale, in addition to the host Patriots.
Senior Jakub Sroczynski led the UMBC men with a first place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:31.74. Teammate Ryan Karrer was not far behind with a sixth place finish at 4:36.22. On the women’s side, freshman Rachel Lesslie took fourth place in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.62.
In the 200 IM, freshman Karn Yisomruay (1:53.52) and junior Adam Blais (1:54.25) finished second and third, respectively, while sophomore Agnes Stanislawska finished eighth on the women’s side with a time of 2:12.23.
In the 50 freestyle, UMBC took fourth place on both sides with freshman Lindsey Engler finishing with a time of 24.25, and sophomore Tim Conway touching the wall at 21.27. During the preliminaries this morning, Engler broke the school record in this event with a time of 24.24.
Both the Retriever men and women took fifth place in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
