PRELIMINARY SWIMMING & DIVING RESULTS FROM PATRIOT INVITATIONAL

The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams opened up competition this morning at the George Mason Patriot Invitational, at Fairfax, Virginia. This year’s participants include American, Duke, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, North Carolina-Wilmington, Seton Hall, Shippensburg, St. Francis (women only), and Yale, in addition to the host Patriots.

 

During the preliminaries this morning, UMBC freshman Lindsey Engler broke the school record in the 50 freestyle, with a time of 24.24, good enough to claim the third seed for this evening’s finals. Teammate Elyse Gibson took the 12th seed for the same event, while sophomore Tim Conway ranked 4th for tonight’s men’s sprint finals.

 

In the 500 freestyle, freshman Rachel Lesslie and junior Amber Harris finished sixth and sixteenth, respectively. On the men’s side, six different Retrievers qualified for a spot on the finals, including senior Jakub Sroczynski (1st), sophomore Ryan Karrer (4th), junior Geza Szabo (7th), freshman Zack Hurd (11th), and sophomores Evan Swann (12th), and Cliff Schmardel (16th).

 

In the 200 IM, sophomore Agnes Stanislawska seeded eighth, while senior Adam Blais, and freshmen Karn Yisomruay and Dominic Lee seeded third, fourth, and tenth, respectively.

 

The final events will begin at 6 p.m., at which time scoring will begin.
